It was cold first day of January 2011 and I was working on my research problem until one of our senior lab members called for a new year's resolution meeting. This was my first ever new year at the school. We began with congratulating each other on starting yet another busy and exciting year followed by an interesting exercise to write our new year resolutions on a piece of paper. What we did last year, what we want to do this year, what are habits we want to drop, what are the hobbies we want to adopt this year, but good thing was we did not need to share this with each other. The thing we discussed and shared was SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. The goal was to state our strengths and analyze weaknesses to achieve our new year resolutions. We also looked on opportunities for growth and threats in the way so that we may plan better.
It was amazing brainstorming activity to focus on our career and personal objectives. SWOT analysis is an amazing way to see where we stand rather than just stating new year resolutions. Today I am really happy to apply this for my year 2014 resolutions.
