What is Black Box?

Its been some days now that Malaysian Airline flight MH370 headed towards Beijing got missing and no trace have been found yet. I got interested in knowing something about black box of an airplane as we hear this after every air crash. Black box refers to two separate pieces of equipment namely, 'cockpit recorder' and 'flight data recorder'. These devices are very important in an event of crash as these help investigators to know the reasons for crash. Dr. David Warren from Australia invented the idea in mid 1950s. The cockpit voice recorder monitors the sounds in the cockpit and conversation of crew members in plane and also with the ground station. On the other hand, flight data recorder has information about the altitude, speed, wind direction and other relevant parameters of the flight.

In this recent disaster of Malaysian flight MH370, its been some days now and still there is no clue where airplane has crashed? Now, some groups of researchers are advocating to live stream the data from a black box. This will help investigators to have all required information, immediately after crash and it could also result, in possibility of rescuing the passengers on board.
