"Nothing is free in water world" is a known dialogue from the movie, 'Water World', which echoed in my mind after reading this recent report on climate change by the intergovernmental panel. The panel recommended to provide 100 billion dollars in aid to poor countries to deal with the problem as those countries are suffering from the devastation caused by industrialized countries. Since nothing is free in water world so USA and other countries opposed the amount of grant saying its too high in times of economic recession.
The facts are very disturbing, report shows that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the arctic is collapsing, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying. Climate change will create many problems for mankind and at the top is food insecurity. Western countries have reduced carbon emission recently but growing economies like India and China are newer contributors to global warming. The issues will be discussed in detail in a conference of world leaders to be held in New York in Fall 2014. Need of the hour is that nations start making progress irrespective of their economic situation for a earth safe to live for future generations.
