Counter Culture

Syed Ahmed's talk at start-up weekend was the one which I really loved. I was happy to listen to Syed Ahmed CEO of DPL IT firm. The topic of his talk was counter culture. He started by saying, "we are taught some rules from the very beginning,  we are born free and creative but people put limitations on that" First of all we are bounded by religious rituals, then societal taboos and friends and family expectations. He said its not a problem to be a good Muslim or something but he pointed to the conflicting ideas. For example our religion prohibits any extra-marital relationship before marriage and then a young man wants to get married. He is told to get a college degree and after that a job and thus this cycle keep on going. He pointed out that most people here even do not know the difference between culture and religion.

Then he pointed out how non-creative and un-original we are and how much we oppose the change. He mentioned an event, when they tried to create little funny cards for employees and they opposed that a lot saying what other people will say about these stupid cards. He lures us to counter culture and invites to think creatively and independently
